
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. — An arrest has been made following a stabbing that left one person seriously injured late Saturday night in Flemingsburg.
According to the Fleming County Sheriff's Office, deputies and other emergency personnel responded to a report of a stabbing at approximately 11:00 p.m. on July 11, 2026.
During the initial investigation, authorities determined that Joseph Howell allegedly stabbed another individual multiple times. The victim was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. Officials have not released the victim's identity.
Following the investigation, Howell was located earlier today and was taken into custody without incident by Sheriff Tim Smith. He was lodged in the Mason County Detention Center.
The investigation has since been turned over to the Kentucky State Police, and the case remains active.
In a statement, Sheriff Tim Smith said the arrest follows what has been a difficult weekend for Fleming County.
"This marks the second violent incident our community has experienced this weekend, following the recent shooting investigation. The safety and security of the citizens of Fleming County remain our highest priority. We will continue working alongside our law enforcement partners to thoroughly investigate violent crimes, hold offenders accountable, and do everything possible to keep our community safe."
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the stabbing as the investigation continues.
As with all criminal cases, all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
