A group of students at Bath County High School is working to bring new life to the county's only public tennis courts, launching a community fundraising effort to repair and resurface the aging facility. The project is being led by the school's Wildcat Leadership Council as a student-driven service initiative aimed at improving recreational opportunities for both students and residents.
According to organizers, the existing courts have deteriorated to the point that they are no longer considered safe or playable. Cracks and surface damage have left local tennis and pickleball players without a suitable place to play, forcing many residents to travel to neighboring counties for practices, recreation, and organized events.
Students involved in the project say the effort is about more than athletics. They view the courts as a potential gathering place that can help strengthen community connections, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide a source of pride for Bath County.
If the fundraising goal is met, plans include resurfacing the courts, repainting playing lines for both tennis and pickleball, and installing new nets and poles. Organizers hope to complete the work within the next several months so that the facility can be reopened for community use by spring.
As of this writing, the fundraiser has raised more than $1,300 toward its $4,000 goal.
