RUSH, Ky. — Emergency officials have ordered the immediate evacuation of several neighborhoods in the Rush community of Boyd County following a reported gas leak Tuesday evening.

According to information released by Boyd County emergency officials and 911 dispatchers, residents in the affected area are being asked to leave their homes immediately as a precaution while emergency crews respond to the incident.
The evacuation order includes:
State Route 3 from Clay Jack to the Lawrence County line
Mindy Lane
Burke Lane
Bolts Fork to the 24,000 block, including all side roads
Rhonda Court
Ellie Mae Drive
Authorities have not yet released details about the cause of the leak or the extent of the hazard. However, officials say the situation is serious enough to warrant the evacuation of everyone within the affected area.
Residents who do not have another location to stay are being directed to the East Fork Fire Department, which has opened as an emergency shelter for those displaced by the evacuation.
The Boyd County Sheriff's Office is assisting with the response and is asking the public to avoid the area entirely. Officials say keeping unnecessary traffic out of the evacuation zone will allow first responders to work safely and efficiently.
Emergency management officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available. Residents are encouraged to monitor official emergency communications and local news outlets for updates.
The Morehead Minute will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as new information is released.
