/Last night, The Morehead Minute asked readers a strange question:
How would you feel if artificial intelligence could let you “talk” to someone you love after they died?
The responses came quickly.
“Creepy.”
“Disgusting.”
“A line technology should never cross.”
“Absolutely not.”
But one response captured the complicated emotions surrounding this emerging technology particularly well.
One reader said that although she found the idea scary and creepy, she would still love to hear her mother and father's voices again.
And perhaps that explains better than anything why something called a “griefbot” now exists.
Because grief can leave us wishing for something impossible:
Just one more conversation.
Artificial intelligence is beginning to offer something that can feel remarkably close to it.
But should it?
