OLIVE HILL, Ky. — Carter Caves State Resort Park is looking for historical reenactors to help bring Appalachian history to life during its annual Appalachian Settlers Weekend, scheduled for July 23-26, 2026.
The event will feature an authentic 18th-century living history encampment designed to educate visitors about the lives, skills, and traditions of early Appalachian settlers.
Park officials are seeking reenactors who can participate from Wednesday through Saturday, with the encampment open to the public daily from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Participants are asked to wear period-correct 18th-century clothing during public hours and maintain historically accurate campsites, with modern items kept out of sight or properly concealed. Reenactors are encouraged to demonstrate traditional crafts and skills, share their knowledge of early frontier life, and interact with visitors to create an engaging and immersive educational experience.
A Camp Feast for participants is planned for Saturday at 6 p.m., and reenactors may begin setting up camp as early as July 19.
As an added benefit, Carter Caves State Resort Park will provide firewood, ice, and access to the park's swimming pool and miniature golf course for participants.
Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to RSVP by emailing [email protected].
