MOREHEAD, Ky. — Pet owners in the area will soon have another option when an unexpected emergency occurs outside normal veterinary office hours.
Cave Run Animal Clinic has announced that it is now offering limited after-hours emergency services for small animals, an expansion the clinic says is intended to better meet the needs of local pet owners.
“We know emergencies don’t always happen during regular business hours, and we want to do our part to help serve our community as much as we can,” the clinic said in announcing the new service.
The clinic emphasized that the new service should not be confused with 24-hour veterinary care. Cave Run Animal Clinic currently operates as a one-veterinarian practice, meaning after-hours emergency care will be offered only when the veterinarian is available.
According to the clinic, pet owners needing emergency assistance outside regular hours should text 606-548-3842 to check availability before seeking care.
Emergency fees will apply to after-hours visits.
The clinic said the expansion comes as it works to balance the needs of the community with the realities of operating a small veterinary practice.
“We are raising a family of 3 kiddos and believe in maintaining a healthy work-family balance,” the clinic explained. “We want to be there for our patients and our community while also being present for our family.”
Despite those limitations, Cave Run Animal Clinic says it hopes to continue expanding the services it can provide as the practice grows.
“We are here. We are listening. And we’re continuing to grow with the needs of our community,” the clinic stated.
The addition could be particularly welcome for pet owners who have experienced the difficult situation of having a sick or injured animal after normal veterinary offices have closed.
Because availability will be limited, pet owners should contact the clinic first rather than assuming emergency care will be available on any particular evening or overnight period.
