MOREHEAD, Ky. — Professional wrestling is making a comeback in Eastern Kentucky, as longtime promoter Joe Clark announces the return of his promotion under a new name: Classic Wrestling Alliance (CWA).

The newly rebranded promotion builds on the legacy of the Appalachian Wrestling Federation (AWF), which operated successfully for nine years across Eastern and Central Kentucky. During its run, the AWF hosted live events in communities throughout the region and featured numerous well-known names and legends from the professional wrestling industry.

The original promotion came to an end in 2007 when its co-founders, Joe Clark and Grant Sorrell, chose to step away from the business to pursue other opportunities.

Now, nearly two decades later, Clark is stepping back into the ring as a promoter, relaunching the organization with a fresh identity and renewed vision as Classic Wrestling Alliance.

“I’ve always believed in the power of professional wrestling to bring communities together,” Clark said. “This isn’t just about matches—it’s about creating an experience for families, fans, and communities across Kentucky.”

The Classic Wrestling Alliance is now booking events and is available for a wide range of appearances, including fairs, festivals, conventions, conferences, and fundraising events. The promotion aims to deliver an “old-school” style of professional wrestling while continuing its tradition of community engagement.

Fans interested in following the promotion, upcoming shows, and booking information can find Classic Wrestling Alliance on Facebook.
