MOUNT STERLING, Ky. — A decades-old missing persons case out of Montgomery County remains unsolved, as authorities continue to seek information in the disappearance of William Edward Hamilton.

Hamilton was last seen on September 24, 1980, in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, when he reportedly walked away from his residence and was never heard from again. More than four decades later, his disappearance remains a mystery.

At the time he went missing, Hamilton did not have a driver’s license and did not own a vehicle, making his sudden disappearance even more puzzling.

Hamilton is described as a Black male, standing approximately 5 feet tall and weighing around 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was known to have a tattoo on one of his arms, though details about the tattoo—including its design and exact location—are unknown.

Additional identifying characteristics include a noticeable limp, and he was known to carry his right arm close to his side while walking.

Very few details are available regarding the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, leaving investigators with limited leads over the years.

The case remains open and is currently under the jurisdiction of the Kentucky State Police.
