The Cranston Cemetery Association is celebrating 75 years of caring for and preserving several historic cemeteries in the Cranston community of Rowan County.
Founded in 1951, the organization was created to help maintain local family and community burial grounds while protecting an important part of Rowan County’s heritage. Over the decades, generations of volunteers have worked to ensure the cemeteries remain places of honor and remembrance for local families.
Today, the Association oversees six cemeteries in the Cranston area: Caudill, Cranston, Hogge, Mabry, Sardis, and Steagall. Current officers say the organization continues to rely heavily on volunteer work, donations, and membership dues to cover mowing, repairs, landscaping, and ongoing preservation projects.
Association leaders noted that all officers and directors serve without compensation and that rising maintenance costs continue to present challenges for the non-profit organization.
The Cranston Cemetery Association is encouraging community members to support the effort through donations, memorial gifts, or volunteer involvement as it looks toward preserving the cemeteries for future generations.
