ELLIOTT COUNTY, Ky. — Visitors to one of Elliott County’s most popular outdoor recreation areas will soon have access to a new public restroom facility thanks to a state grant award.
According to Elliott County Judge/Executive Myron S. Lewis, the county has been awarded $156,716 through a Cleaner Water Grant to purchase and install a prefabricated restroom at the kayak parking area located at Laurel Curves.
The grant application was submitted by Judge Lewis and approved by the Elliott County Fiscal Court.
County officials say the new structure will provide a permanent restroom option for the growing number of people who visit the area each year, including kayakers, anglers, outdoor enthusiasts, and sightseers.
The facility will be similar to restroom buildings commonly found at state and national parks across the country and is intended to improve amenities for both local residents and tourists who come to enjoy the natural beauty of the Laurel Curves area.
Judge Lewis thanked several state and regional partners for their support in securing the funding, including Governor Andy Beshear, the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA), and FIVCO Area Development District, which assisted with grant administration.
County leaders expect the restroom facility to be delivered and opened to the public approximately four to six months after construction is completed.
The building shown in county materials is a sample rendering. Officials noted the final structure is expected to feature sage green walls and a caramel mocha-colored roof.
The project represents another investment in outdoor recreation infrastructure in Elliott County as local leaders continue efforts to enhance visitor experiences along the region’s waterways and scenic destinations.
