Ford Motor Company has issued an urgent safety recall affecting approximately 4,600 vehicles nationwide and is advising owners of the impacted models to stop driving them until repairs can be completed.
According to information released as part of the recall, a suspension component known as the lower control arm ball joint may not have been installed correctly during manufacturing or previous repair work. If the component separates, it could cause the front wheel assembly to disconnect, resulting in a sudden loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects certain Ford Bronco Sport vehicles from model years 2021 through 2026, as well as select Ford Maverick pickups from model years 2022 through 2026.
Ford dealerships will inspect affected vehicles and perform any necessary repairs free of charge. The company has indicated that owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning June 5.
Ford's warning advises owners not to operate recalled vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired. However, the company has not publicly detailed how affected owners should transport their vehicles to a dealership if they are unable to drive them.
Owners who believe their vehicle may be included in the recall are encouraged to contact their local Ford dealership or check their vehicle identification number (VIN) through Ford's recall resources for additional information.
The recall serves as a reminder for vehicle owners to promptly respond to safety notices, particularly those involving steering, suspension, or wheel-related components that could affect vehicle control.
