Young people with dreams of flying—or simply a curiosity about aviation—will have a chance to take to the skies next weekend as the Young Eagles program returns to the Morehead-Rowan County Regional Airport.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and is open to children and teenagers between the ages of 8 and 17.

Hosted through the nationally recognized Young Eagles program, the event introduces youth to the world of aviation through hands-on experiences and a complimentary flight with a volunteer pilot. Since its founding, the program has provided millions of young people across the country with their first opportunity to fly in a general aviation aircraft.

Participants can expect:

  • A brief educational session about how airplanes fly

  • A free airplane ride lasting approximately 15–20 minutes

  • Opportunities to explore aircraft up close and ask questions about aviation careers and flying

  • An official Young Eagles certificate following their flight

Organizers say the program is designed to inspire the next generation of pilots, aviation professionals, and aerospace enthusiasts while giving families a unique and memorable experience.

Parents or legal guardians must be present to complete the required permission forms before a child can participate in a flight.

Whether a young person hopes to become a pilot someday or simply wants to experience the thrill of flying for the first time, organizers say the event offers an unforgettable introduction to aviation.

The event will take place at the Morehead-Rowan County Regional Airport and is free of charge.

For families looking for a fun and educational activity, this could be a great opportunity to see Northeastern Kentucky from a whole new perspective.
