We’ve seen questions recently about how we decide what to report, so we want to provide some clarity on our approach.

The Morehead Minute is a local news outlet. Like newspapers and television stations, we report factual, publicly available information to help keep our community informed.

This includes reporting on arrests when they are documented through official sources. Reporting an arrest is not a determination of guilt. It simply reflects that charges have been filed. The court system determines the outcome, and all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Why do we report some arrests and not others?
As a small, local outlet, we are not able to report every arrest. Coverage decisions are based on factors such as public interest, community impact, available information, and overall newsworthiness. However, when we do report, we apply the same standard consistently.

We also believe in reporting updates. If charges are dismissed, reduced, or if someone is found not guilty, we will report that as well.

Our role is not to take sides, but to provide accurate, fair, and consistent local news.

We appreciate our community and encourage respectful discussion. Personal attacks and harassment will not be tolerated.
