There was a time when local news didn’t have to fight to be seen.

It showed up on your front porch. It was discussed over coffee at the diner. It connected neighbors, informed communities, and held local institutions accountable in a way no outside voice ever could.

Today, much of that has changed.

Across the country—and right here in our region—local newspapers have closed their doors, newsrooms have gone quiet, and coverage of small communities has slowly faded. In many places, stories that directly impact everyday people simply go untold.

That’s where local journalism still matters.

At The Morehead Minute, our goal has never been to compete with large television networks or national outlets. Our mission is much simpler—and much more important: to make sure our communities are informed.

Sometimes that means covering a local business milestone. Other times, it means reporting on decisions made by local officials that affect taxpayers, services, and the future of our counties.

Recently, we reported on a developing issue in Morgan County. It was a story rooted in public records, official documents, and questions that deserved attention. In the days that followed, larger media outlets also began covering the same topic.

That’s not a complaint—it’s a reminder.

A reminder that local stories matter enough to be heard.
A reminder that the first spotlight often starts at the local level.
And a reminder that communities benefit when more eyes are paying attention.

Local journalism isn’t about being first for the sake of recognition. It’s about being present. It’s about asking questions. It’s about giving people access to information they deserve to have.

And it’s about doing it the right way—fairly, accurately, and responsibly.

We don’t claim to have all the answers. But we do promise this:

We will continue to report the facts.
We will continue to seek answers.
And we will continue to serve the people of this region to the best of our ability.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting local journalism.
