GRAYSON, Ky. — Officials with Grayson Lake State Park have responded to inquiries regarding an incident that prompted a law enforcement response at Hidden Cove Golf Course earlier this week.

In a statement provided to The Morehead Minute, Park Manager Steve Kennedy, PGA, confirmed that the matter involved unauthorized commercial activity on state park property and was not related to any criminal allegations.

According to Kennedy, Kentucky State Parks became aware of an individual selling golf balls near the entrance to Hidden Cove Golf Course, located within Grayson Lake State Park.

"In accordance with 304 KAR 1:030, commercial activity on state park property requires prior written authorization from the Department," Kennedy said.

Kennedy stated that the individual selling golf balls had neither requested nor received the required authorization.

"Park staff informed the individual of the policy and asked that the individual stop," he said.

The statement provides additional context to scanner traffic that circulated on social media and generated significant public discussion. Early reports suggested a juvenile may have been involved, leading some residents to express concern about the circumstances surrounding the call. However, the park's response focuses solely on the issue of unauthorized commercial activity and does not indicate that the situation involved any criminal conduct.

State park officials emphasized that the regulations are designed to protect visitors and ensure park property remains accessible and orderly.

"These regulations help ensure that park property remains safe, orderly and enjoyable for all visitors," Kennedy said.

No arrests, citations, or criminal charges have been reported in connection with the incident.

The clarification appears to bring closure to a story that attracted considerable attention online after scanner traffic from the initial call was shared on social media. As is often the case, the information available during an initial dispatch did not fully capture the circumstances that were later explained by park officials.

For visitors who may be considering selling products, services, or merchandise on Kentucky State Park property, the incident also serves as a reminder that prior written authorization is required before engaging in commercial activity within state parks.
