MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Kentucky First Coalition has announced its endorsement of Jim Tom Trent in the race for mayor of Morehead, citing his responses to the organization’s Municipal Candidate Questionnaire.
In an announcement posted by the organization, the Kentucky First Coalition said Trent received an “A” rating with a score of 94 out of 100 on its questionnaire.
The coalition said Trent’s responses demonstrated what the organization considers a commitment to accountable government, responsible use of taxpayer dollars and practical improvements for the community.
Coalition cites three priorities
In explaining its endorsement, the Kentucky First Coalition highlighted three areas from Trent’s questionnaire responses.
Open Government and Transparency: According to the coalition, Trent supports making nonconfidential government information accessible to the public and increasing openness and accountability in city government.
Responsible Spending and Infrastructure: The organization said Trent supports pursuing opportunities to lower taxes while prioritizing repairs and improvements to streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
Affordable Housing and Economic Opportunity: The coalition said Trent favors cooperation among local officials, builders, landowners and lenders in an effort to increase affordable single-family housing and expand opportunities for homeownership.
The Kentucky First Coalition said Trent’s answers reflected its belief that local government should work for its citizens, describing his positions on transparency, infrastructure and housing as a practical agenda for Morehead.
The endorsement adds another development to the campaign for leadership of Morehead city government as candidates continue making their cases to voters.
