MOREHEAD, Ky. — Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead has officially welcomed a new commander.

Captain Chris Burton has been named the new commander of KSP Post 8, bringing more than two decades of law enforcement experience to the position. Burton is a 21-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police and began his career after graduating from Cadet Class 83 in 2005.

Throughout his career, Burton has served communities across northeastern Kentucky, including Bath, Montgomery, Menifee, Fleming, Mason, and Lewis counties.

In 2008, Burton joined the agency’s Special Response Team (SRT), further expanding his role within the department. Over the years, he continued to rise through the ranks, earning a promotion to Sergeant in 2017. During that time, he also served as an instructor at the Kentucky State Police Academy, where he helped train future troopers.

Burton was promoted to Lieutenant in 2020 and remained assigned to the academy before receiving another promotion to Captain earlier this month.

In a statement shared by KSP personnel, Burton said he was glad to return to the region and looked forward to working alongside the men and women of Post 8 while continuing to serve the people of Eastern Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police officials also expressed confidence in Burton’s leadership and experience as he takes over command duties at the Morehead post.

Post 8 serves several counties throughout northeastern Kentucky and is headquartered in Morehead.
