MOREHEAD, Ky. — Residents of Morehead and surrounding communities interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement have an opportunity to serve close to home as the Kentucky State Police continues accepting applications for Cadet Class 108.
The agency is offering a starting annual salary of $71,000 for newly sworn troopers, along with a guaranteed assignment to Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead for qualifying applicants who successfully complete the hiring and training process.
The opportunity is particularly appealing to individuals who want to enter law enforcement without having to relocate to another part of Kentucky.
According to the Kentucky State Police, applicants selected for final hiring from the Post 8 area will be guaranteed an assignment at their home post following graduation from the academy.
The agency recently extended its application deadline to Friday, October 30, 2026, giving prospective candidates additional time to apply.
Cadet Class 108 is scheduled to begin training in May 2027.
The Kentucky State Police has also introduced several incentives designed to attract new recruits, including a revised 22-week academy training program, mileage reimbursement for cadets traveling to and from the academy, and opportunities for overtime compensation after becoming sworn troopers.
The training program includes instruction in criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, constitutional law, emergency response, community relations, and other essential law enforcement responsibilities.
Cadets will also have opportunities to pursue an associate degree while attending the academy.
State police officials report that interest in Cadet Class 108 has been particularly strong, with applications reaching levels not seen since before 2020.
