MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Rowan County Clerk's Office is reminding residents that Kentucky's voter identification requirements have changed, and anyone planning to vote should make sure they bring an acceptable photo ID to the polls.
According to the updated guidance, which took effect July 15, 2026, voters must present an approved form of photo identification before casting their ballot.
Acceptable Forms of Photo ID
Voters may use any of the following:
Kentucky driver's license
Kentucky state-issued ID card
U.S. passport
Military ID
Student ID issued by a Kentucky college or university
Government-issued photo ID
IDs No Longer Accepted
Beginning July 15, 2026, the following are no longer accepted as voter identification:
Social Security card
SNAP/EBT (food assistance) card
Being personally recognized by an election officer without presenting an approved photo ID
