Rowan County Schools recently honored one of its own for a lifetime of dedication and service to students and the community.

McBrayer Elementary School Resource Officer Scott Barker was surprised with a “Life of Service Award” presented by the Rowan County Veterans Association in recognition of his years of commitment, leadership, and protection of local students.

According to Rowan County Schools, Barker was recognized not only for helping keep students safe, but also for the strong relationships and positive impact he has built within the McBrayer Elementary community over the years.

Representatives from the Rowan County Veterans Association were on hand for the presentation, including Bill Bolen, along with Rowan County Schools Superintendent Michael Rowe, who joined in honoring Barker for his service.

School officials praised Barker for consistently going above and beyond in his role as an SRO, noting his dedication to both the safety and wellbeing of students throughout the district.

The recognition served as a heartfelt reminder of the important role school resource officers play in supporting and mentoring the next generation.
