MOUNT STERLING, Ky. — The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office recently welcomed a special guest as this year's Sheriff for the Day winner, Jase Cockrell, spent the day getting a firsthand look at the many responsibilities of local law enforcement.
According to Sheriff David Charles, Jase's experience began with being officially sworn in before receiving an orientation to the sheriff's office. Throughout the day, deputies introduced him to a variety of specialized equipment and operations, including the agency's evidence facility, drones, patrol equipment, and the tools deputies rely on in the field.
Captain Tommy Parker then led Jase through firearms training at the shooting range, where he had the opportunity to learn about weapons safety and marksmanship.
The day continued with a K-9 demonstration, where Jase worked alongside K-9 Jago. Sgt. Garland also participated in the training, helping showcase the capabilities of the department's police dog program.
To wrap up his busy day, Jase toured the county's 911 Communications Center, where dispatchers demonstrated how emergency calls are received and coordinated to assist first responders throughout Montgomery County.
Sheriff Charles thanked Jase for spending the day with the department, saying it was a pleasure to share the many facets of law enforcement with this year's Sheriff for the Day winner.
