A Morehead woman is facing multiple criminal charges after being arrested by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Rowan County Detention Center on Friday evening.
According to detention center records, 32-year-old Kourtnay Howard was booked into the facility at approximately 6:49 p.m. on June 6, 2026.
Howard is charged with:
Assault, Third Degree (Police Officer/Probation Officer)
Resisting Arrest
Wanton Endangerment, Second Degree
Jail records indicate Howard has two open cases. One case carries a $2,500 cash bond, while a second case is listed as having no bond.
According to the detention center's online records, the assault and resisting arrest charges are connected to Howard's June 6 arrest. The wanton endangerment charge lists an offense date of April 20, 2026, suggesting it may stem from an earlier incident.
Under Kentucky law, third-degree assault involving a police officer is generally classified as a Class D felony. If convicted, the offense carries a potential sentence of one to five years in prison. Resisting arrest and second-degree wanton endangerment are generally Class A misdemeanors, each punishable by up to 12 months in jail and possible fines.
The assault charge is the most serious offense listed in the detention center record.
As of publication, no additional details regarding the allegations or circumstances leading to the arrest had been released through publicly available detention center records. Court filings may provide additional information as the case moves through the judicial process.
All charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Morehead Minute will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as additional information becomes available through court proceedings and public records.
