MOREHEAD, Ky. — Kentucky author, historian, and Morehead Minute publisher Joe Clark has released a new nonfiction book honoring the four heroes who lost their lives during the June 30, 2022, ambush in Allen, Kentucky.

Titled Ambush in Allen: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes, the 116-page book tells the story of one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in Kentucky history while focusing on the lives, service, and legacy of Prestonsburg Police Captain Ralph Frasure, Floyd County Sheriff's Deputy William Petry, Prestonsburg Police Officer Jacob Chaffins, and K-9 Drago.

Rather than focusing on the individual responsible for the attack, the book serves as a memorial to the fallen officers and police K-9, highlighting their commitment to public service, the community's response in the aftermath of the tragedy, and the enduring impact of their sacrifice.

"History isn't only about preserving victories," Clark said. "It's also about preserving sacrifice. I wanted to create a permanent record that honors these four heroes and ensures that future generations understand not only what happened that day, but who these individuals were and what they meant to their community."

Drawing on public records, official reports, news coverage, and community accounts, Ambush in Allen chronicles the events leading up to the ambush, the investigation that followed, and the changes in law enforcement training and officer safety that emerged in its aftermath.

The book also explores the response from Floyd County, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the national law enforcement community, emphasizing remembrance over sensationalism.

Clark, who has authored numerous books on Kentucky history, Appalachian heritage, and true crime, said the project was approached with great care and respect.

"My hope is that this book stands as a tribute—not to the tragedy itself—but to the courage, dedication, and selfless service of those who gave everything in the line of duty."

Ambush in Allen: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes is available in paperback and Kindle editions through Amazon.
