MOREHEAD, Ky. — Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals recently welcomed members of the 2026 Governor's Scholars Program Psychology Class to its Morehead facility as part of the students' five-week summer program at Morehead State University.

The students, who represent communities from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, visited the funeral home for an educational presentation highlighting the many facets of the funeral service profession.

During the visit, Helen Northcutt, John Northcutt, Mike Harmon and Nathan Eldridge discussed the history of funeral service, funeral customs and traditions, educational requirements for entering the profession, funeral and cremation processes, pre-need planning, and the many responsibilities involved in helping families make funeral arrangements.

According to Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, the students were engaged throughout the presentation, asking thoughtful and insightful questions before taking part in a guided tour of the funeral home.

The visit provided Governor's Scholars with an opportunity to learn about a profession that is often misunderstood while gaining a better understanding of the care, planning and professionalism involved in serving families during one of life's most difficult times.

Northcutt & Son expressed its appreciation to both the Governor's Scholars Program and Morehead State University for including the funeral home as part of this year's educational experience.

The funeral home also extended its best wishes to the members of the 2026 Governor's Scholars Program as they continue their academic and professional journeys.
