WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump was safely evacuated Saturday night after a shooting incident disrupted the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
According to officials, gunshots were reported outside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton, where hundreds of journalists, public figures, and government leaders had gathered for the event. Witnesses inside the venue described a chaotic scene, with attendees being instructed to take cover as multiple shots were reportedly fired.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that President Trump and the First Lady were not injured. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Authorities quickly responded to the scene, securing the building and evacuating guests. A suspect has been taken into custody, according to the Secret Service, though additional details about the individual or motive have not yet been released.
In a statement following the incident, President Trump praised law enforcement for their swift response and efforts to ensure public safety, adding that he would defer to authorities regarding whether the event should continue.
High-ranking officials in attendance included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, all of whom were also safely evacuated.
