Morehead, KY — A potentially dangerous situation at Cave Run Lake ended safely Monday evening thanks to the quick actions of Kentucky State Police troopers and local emergency responders.

According to information released by KSP Post 8, troopers were notified of an overturned jet ski near the Stoney Cove Boat Ramp around 5:00 p.m. on May 4. When Trooper Christian Saylor and Sergeant Sam Lawson arrived on scene, they observed two individuals stranded in the water alongside the overturned watercraft.

Acting swiftly, the troopers secured a nearby boat from a local marina to reach the individuals. Both were safely removed from the water and transported back to shore, where Bath County EMS was waiting to provide medical attention. Officials noted that both individuals were suffering from exposure to the cold water but were otherwise safely rescued.

Authorities credit the troopers’ quick thinking, resourcefulness, and commitment to public safety with preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome.

The Kentucky State Police is reminding the public to always wear properly fitted life jackets and to operate all watercraft safely while on the water.
