Motorists traveling through Morgan County this morning are being urged to use extreme caution after a portion of State Route 364 reportedly collapsed overnight.

According to the Morgan County Judge Executive's Office, the roadway failure occurred just past the sawmill area along Route 364. Photos released from the scene show a significant section of pavement washed away, leaving part of the roadway hanging over a steep embankment.

Officials say the White Oak Volunteer Fire Department is currently on scene assisting with traffic control while crews assess the damage.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reportedly preparing to respond to the area, and state officials are expected to close Route 364 until the roadway can be stabilized and deemed safe for travel.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes until repairs can be completed.

The damage appears to be another reminder of the challenges recent severe weather has created across parts of Eastern Kentucky, where saturated ground and heavy rainfall continue to impact roads and infrastructure.

Residents who regularly travel through the area are encouraged to monitor local emergency management and transportation updates throughout the day.
