Residents of Rowan County will soon have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted tires at no cost during a special Waste Tire Collection Event scheduled for later this month.
The Rowan County Fiscal Court, working in cooperation with grant funding from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, will host the 2½-day event from May 28–30, 2026.
The collection will take place at the Rowan County Road Department, located at 184 Horizon Way in Morehead.
Event Schedule
May 28, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
May 29, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
May 30, 2026: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Officials say the event is designed to help residents properly dispose of old tires while reducing illegal dumping and environmental hazards throughout the county.
Tires Accepted
The following types of tires will be accepted:
Passenger tires
Light truck tires
Truck tires
Agricultural tires
Lawn tractor tires
ATV and bicycle tires
Tires on rims
Tires Not Accepted
The following items will not be accepted:
Foam or calcium-filled tires
Heavy equipment (OTR) tires
Solid tires with or without pressed-on rims
Any tire with a bead greater than 1¾ inches
County officials also noted that tire retailers, scrap yards, and recycling businesses are prohibited from participating in the program.
Following the event, Rowan County officials say waste tires found throughout the county may be targeted for enforcement action. Property owners could face cleanup costs and possible financial penalties if illegal tire dumping is discovered.
