Residents of Rowan County are being encouraged to sign up for a new emergency notification platform following the county’s transition from the former Rave alert system to a new service known as Rowan Alert, powered by Everbridge.

According to county officials, the updated system is designed to deliver important public safety notifications directly to residents in affected areas. Alerts may include severe weather warnings, flash flood notifications, winter weather advisories, road closure information, and other emergency updates impacting the community.

Officials stressed that anyone who previously received notifications through the older Rave or Reverse 911 system will need to register again in order to continue receiving alerts through the new platform.

The new Rowan Alert system allows users to receive notifications by text message, phone call, or email, and is designed to provide more location-specific alerts while reducing unnecessary notifications outside a person’s immediate area.

Residents can create an account and register for alerts through the county’s Everbridge portal:

For those who may not have time to complete a full registration immediately, limited alert options are also available by text message:

  • Text ROWANWEATHER to 888777 for weather-related alerts

  • Text ROWANROADS to 888777 for road condition and closure updates

County officials say creating a full account remains the best option for receiving the most accurate, location-based emergency information tailored to individual areas within the county.

Emergency management leaders say the goal of the new system is to improve preparedness and communication across the community by ensuring residents receive timely information during potentially dangerous situations.
