Rowan County Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Todd Watts has been appointed as the new principal of Rowan County Middle School. A native of Rowan County and a member of the Class of 2004, Dr. Watts returns home after a distinguished career in education across the region.

Dr. Watts currently serves as principal of Ewing Elementary School in Fleming County, and he has previously held roles in both Fleming and Mason County schools. His experience includes positions as a high school English teacher, assistant principal, academic team coach, and middle and high school bass fishing coach. These diverse roles have equipped him with a unique, well-rounded perspective on student success and school leadership.

Dr. Watts earned his Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education, a Master’s in School Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Morehead State University. Throughout his career, he has been deeply committed to fostering strong school cultures, supporting teachers, and creating systems that help all students thrive academically and personally. He believes that lasting school success comes from building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations, consistency, and a student-focused approach.

“I’m extremely honored, grateful, and excited to return home for the opportunity to contribute to the school and community that helped shape me,” Dr. Watts said. “I look forward to working alongside students, families, and staff to continue building a supportive and thriving learning environment.”

Dr. Watts is happily married to his wife, Ashley, and is the father of two children, Aaron and Audrey. He is eager to rejoin the Rowan County community and become an integral part of the RCMS family.
