For generations of Rowan County students, the halls of the old Rowan County Middle School hold memories of friendships, classroom lessons, school events, and milestones that helped shape their lives. Later this month, the community will have a chance to revisit those memories before the building begins a new chapter.
The Rowan County School District has announced a special open house at the former Rowan County Middle School/High School building, located at 415 W. Sun Street in Morehead.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, giving former students, teachers, staff members, and community residents an opportunity to walk through the building one final time.
According to the district, the facility is preparing for its transition to the future UK St. Claire Medical Center, making this a unique opportunity for the public to revisit classrooms, hallways, and other familiar spaces before renovations begin.
School officials say visitors are welcome to reflect on the memories made within the building and celebrate its long history as an educational landmark in Rowan County.
The district also noted that no items will be available for sale and that all historical artifacts from the school have been safely preserved.
For many alumni and former staff members, the event offers a chance to reconnect with a place that played an important role in their lives and to say goodbye before the building begins its next chapter serving the community.
