Parents and guardians of students in the Rowan County School District should be aware of a new safety and communication initiative that will begin with the start of the upcoming school year.
According to Rowan County Schools, every student will receive a Tyler Technologies RFID identification badge with their photo on the first day of school. The district says participation in the program will be required for all students.
School officials say the badges are designed to improve student safety while also providing more accurate attendance and meal service records. The system will also allow parents and guardians to receive important notifications related to their child's school transportation.
For students who ride the school bus, parents can receive updates regarding:
Bus delays
Accidents
Changes in bus assignments
Other important transportation notifications
The district says students will be required to use their badges when riding the school bus and when going through breakfast and lunch lines.
If a student's badge is lost or damaged, parents should notify their child's school or bus driver so the student can be added to the replacement list.

Each additional replacement badge: $5.00
