Rowan County Senior High School is celebrating a major academic and cultural milestone after officially launching its first-ever chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français, the nationally recognized French Honor Society.

According to the school, Chapter #6409 recently held its inaugural induction ceremony, welcoming 18 students as lifetime members of the prestigious organization. An additional makeup induction ceremony was also conducted during the school week to ensure all eligible students could participate.

School officials say the new chapter has already made a strong impact during its first year, with students actively participating in activities designed to promote French language and culture both inside and outside the classroom.

Throughout the year, students participated in French film nights, celebrated French holidays and traditions such as Mardi Gras, sponsored Viking French Week activities, and hosted a special one-night-only “French Fest” cultural event. Members also supported the Rowan County Senior High School Theatre Department’s production of Les Misérables by helping provide French-inspired food and concession service during the performances.

The school praised students for embracing French culture in meaningful ways while helping create a successful first year for the organization.

Faculty and staff also congratulated the newly inducted members and everyone involved in helping establish the chapter, noting that they believe the future of French studies at Rowan County Senior High School is just beginning.
