MOREHEAD, Ky. — Students at Rowan County Senior High School recently turned their AP U.S. History classroom into a forum for critical thinking and respectful debate, tackling one of the most complex and controversial decisions of World War II.
According to a post shared by the school, students participated in a “4-Corners” activity focused on the use of atomic bombs during the war. The exercise challenged students to explore multiple perspectives, with each corner of the classroom representing a different viewpoint on the historic decision.
Students were tasked with defending their positions using historical evidence, ethical reasoning, and structured discussion. The activity encouraged them to weigh factors ranging from military strategy to humanitarian consequences, prompting deeper engagement with the subject matter.
Educators say exercises like this help students move beyond memorization and into meaningful analysis, allowing them to better understand the complexities of history and the decisions that have shaped the modern world.
