
The Rowan County Veterans' Foundation is accepting applications for a part-time Director to oversee the Rowan County Veterans' Museum and help preserve the stories and sacrifices of local military veterans.
The position involves organizing and preserving the museum's collection of artifacts, including uniforms, medals, photographs, and historical documents. The Director will also develop exhibits highlighting local military history, work with veterans and their families, collaborate with schools and community organizations, assist with museum events and fundraising, maintain records, support basic museum administration, and help implement security measures to protect the museum's collection.
Applicants should have an interest in veterans' history and community service. Experience working with museums, archives, or historical projects is preferred, along with strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers and the public. Formal museum training is preferred but not required.
The position is a part-time contract role, averaging 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling that may include evenings and weekends. The initial contract is for 12 months and may be renewed based on performance and available funding. Compensation will be based on experience and available funding. This is a contractor position and does not include benefits. Payment will be issued every two weeks. The Director reports directly to the Rowan County Veterans' Foundation Board and its President.
