Following yesterday’s severe weather, the Rowan County Emergency Management says it has received multiple questions from residents regarding why some Rowan Alert / Everbridge notifications were not sent during the storms.
According to emergency officials, no National Weather Service warning polygons were issued directly for Rowan County during the event. Officials explained that most warnings remained focused on areas west and south of the county, meaning the Rowan Alert system was not triggered locally.
Emergency Management stated that the notification system functioned as designed.
Officials also reminded residents that seeing warnings for nearby counties on television broadcasts, social media, or weather apps does not necessarily mean Rowan County itself is under an active warning.
Residents are encouraged to use several sources for severe weather information, including:
Rowan Alert notifications
NOAA Weather Radios
Trusted weather applications
Local media outlets
Emergency officials also advised residents who do not feel their homes are safe during severe weather to make plans ahead of time to stay with family, friends, or at another safer location before storms move into the area.
Rowan County Emergency Management added that they appreciate public feedback as they continue working to improve emergency communications across the county.
