MOREHEAD — A Sandy Hook couple has been charged with Solicitation to Commit Murder following arrests made by the Kentucky State Police. UPDATE: (The Initial charge of “Murder” originally listed by the Rowan County Detention Center was incorrect. The charge is now Solicitation To Commit Murder.)

According to records from the Rowan County Detention Center, Steve Adkins, 70, and Rita Adkins, 68, were booked into the jail late Friday night, June 12.

Both individuals are charged with one count of murder. Jail records indicate the alleged offense date was June 8, 2026. The arrests were made by the Kentucky State Police.

Steve Adkins is being held under case number 26-CR-00030, while Rita Adkins is being held under case number 26-CR-00031.

Both cases remain open in circuit court.
Court records show each defendant is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

As of publication, additional details regarding the circumstances of the case, the identity of any victim, or the nature of the investigation have not been released publicly.
