MOREHEAD, Ky. — U.S. Senator Rand Paul has publicly endorsed Jim Tom Trent in his campaign for mayor of Morehead ahead of the November 3, 2026, general election.
In a Facebook post accompanied by a campaign endorsement graphic, Paul expressed his support for Trent, emphasizing the importance of local government and its influence on residents' everyday lives.
“Local government touches every aspect of your life,” Paul wrote, referencing streets, public services and local taxes as issues that directly affect citizens.
The Kentucky senator described Trent as a strong conservative who would work to lower taxes and represent the interests of Morehead residents.
The accompanying campaign graphic featured photographs of both Paul and Trent, along with a statement expressing Paul's support for Trent's election as mayor.
Paul also encouraged residents to participate in the upcoming election, noting that mayoral races can sometimes be decided by only a handful of votes.
Another Endorsement for Trent
The endorsement follows an earlier announcement by the Kentucky First Coalition, which endorsed Trent in October after awarding him a score of 94 out of 100 on its municipal candidate questionnaire.
The organization cited Trent's stated positions on government transparency, responsible spending, infrastructure improvements and affordable housing.
Trent previously served as mayor of Morehead before being defeated by Laura White-Brown in the 2018 mayoral election.
The November 3 election will determine who leads Morehead's city government during the next mayoral term.
The mayoral contest is nonpartisan. Other candidates include Morehead City Council member Edna Schack, who is running as a write-in candidate.
