Outdoor enthusiasts across Eastern Kentucky have an opportunity to help preserve one of the region’s most well-known hiking trails.
The Cave Run Lake Chapter of the Sheltowee Trace Association is currently seeking volunteers to assist with maintenance and upkeep along portions of the historic Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail.
According to the organization, the Cave Run Lake Chapter is responsible for maintaining approximately the first 70 miles of the trail. That section begins at the Northern Terminus in Rowan County, travels through Bath County, and continues to Corner Ridge in Menifee County.
The association says volunteers are always welcome, regardless of experience level, and describes the effort as a chance to meet others who share a love for the outdoors while helping preserve an important recreational resource in the region.
Typical workdays are held on the first Saturday of each month, along with occasional midweek projects when trail leaders are available.
Those interested in volunteering can email the organization at [email protected] and request to be added to the volunteer distribution list. Volunteers are asked to specify whether they are available for weekend projects, weekday projects, or both. The organization says emails are sent prior to each scheduled workday, allowing volunteers to respond if they plan to participate.
The Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail stretches for hundreds of miles through Kentucky and Tennessee and is widely known for its scenic forest views, rugged terrain, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
